Plain terms for the use of this website and our donation process.
We have tried to write these terms as we would speak them. They are not lengthy because we are not a complicated organisation. If anything below is unclear, write to [email protected] and we will explain.
In short

- Donations are processed in £ sterling and we recover Gift Aid where eligible.
- We aim to acknowledge a donation by email within five working days.
- We do not guarantee uptime — we are a small charity with a static website.

About us
This site is operated by John Fricker's Charity of 1696, a charity registered in England and Wales with charity number 220019. Our registered office is at c/o The Trustees' Clerk, St Martin's Church House, St Martin's Church Street, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP1 2HW.
Use of the site
You may read this site, and link to it, freely. You may quote brief extracts in news reporting, academic writing, or correspondence with attribution to 'John Fricker's Charity of 1696'. You may not republish substantial portions of the text without our written consent, and you may not use any of our photography in commercial settings.
You agree not to use the site to do anything unlawful, to attempt to bypass any access controls, or to interfere with its availability for other readers.
Donations
Donations made through the site are processed in pounds sterling (£). We use Stripe Payments UK Ltd as our card processor; we do not see or store your full card number. We recover Gift Aid on your donation where you have made a valid Gift Aid declaration.
If you make a donation in error — including by entering the wrong amount — write to [email protected] within thirty days and we will refund the donation in full.
Monthly donations may be cancelled at any time by writing to [email protected]; we will action your request before the next monthly payment date, provided we receive the cancellation at least three working days beforehand.
Intellectual property
All original text and photography on this site is © John Fricker's Charity of 1696, unless otherwise credited. The Cormorant Garamond and Inter typefaces are used under their respective open-source font licences (SIL Open Font Licence). The Font Awesome icons are used under their free licence.
Limitation of liability
We provide this site on a 'reasonable endeavours' basis. We do not guarantee that it will always be available, free of error, or compatible with every device. To the maximum extent allowed by law, we exclude liability for any incidental, indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.
Third-party links
We link to the Charity Commission register, to the ICO, to Trinity Hospital, and to a small number of our named partners. We are not responsible for the content of any external site.
Changes to these terms
We review these terms each May. The current version was last updated on 21 May 2026. We will post any material change here and date the new version accordingly.
Governing law
These terms are governed by English law. Any dispute arising under them shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
